Baseten Grid
Intro
Baseten Grid is a new product launched on 2026-11-04 by AI inference platform Baseten (CEO Tuhin Srivastava). Baseten describes it as "gateway, intelligent routing and guardrails in one layer, so enterprises get more done with their AI spend."
It targets enterprises where many teams use coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others). Sitting above inference, Grid takes over model traffic across teams, tools and credentials, handling routing, usage monitoring and access governance, and can steer suitable requests to cheaper models, including ones Baseten hosts. Early access is via waitlist, with Opendoor named as a customer.
Explain
What problem it solves
Coding agents turn model choice into a recurring enterprise expense spread across teams, tools and API keys. Platform teams struggle to set budgets, keep audit trails or automatically send easy work to cheaper models.
Key capabilities
- Gateway: one entry point with centralized credentials and access control.
- Intelligent routing: matches requests to models by difficulty and cost; reports cite about 70% savings on a benchmark.
- Guardrails and governance: budgets, usage monitoring and audit records.
Compared with alternatives
Similar in spirit to OpenRouter, LiteLLM and other AI gateways, but Grid focuses explicitly on enterprise coding agents and ties into Baseten's own inference.
Limitations
- Early access via waitlist.
- The 70% figure is vendor/press-reported; real savings depend on workload and model mix.
- Routing to cheaper models can hurt quality on hard tasks, so pair it with evals.
Usage
Who it's for
- Enterprise platform teams with many engineers on coding agents who need to control AI spend and compliance;
- Teams already on Baseten inference that want one place to manage multi-model traffic.
Getting started
- Join the waitlist from the Baseten Grid announcement.
- Inventory your coding agents' model calls and credentials and plan to route them through the Grid gateway.
- Set team budgets and routing rules, pilot with a small group, and compare cost and code quality before rolling out.
