GPT-Image-2.6 Flare (API id gpt-image-2.6-flare) is the low-latency Images 2.6 API tier from OpenAI for fast iteration; the higher-detail sibling is GPT-Image-2.6 Sunburst.

Notes:

• Vendor claims ~6s generations at low quality/complexity;
• Family supports GIF, SVG, and markup edits;
• ~50% faster vs 2.5 generation (vendor claim).

Why it matters

Splits “fast” into its own API id so agents/workflows can default to a low-latency path.

Caveats

• Not CERN+Mistral’s planned Large Physics Model also named Flare — this entry is the OpenAI image API tier;
• Low quality settings trade away detail; production assets often move up to Sunburst.
